If there's one thing I've learned from running my own company, it's that you can only fail if you give up. If something doesn't work, try something else and eventually you'll succeed. My first invention, an inflatable dartboard, just didn't become as popular as I had hoped it would, for some reason. My next venture, waterproof tea bags, also mysteriously failed to capture any market share. So I changed my approach, and went to Office Depot and Wal-Mart and Target looking for an unserved market, and I noticed that highlighter pens came in every color except black, so I got right to work on designing one. I expect to have it ready for mass production soon and should have the whole black highlighter market to myself. If it doesn't sell well, I have an idea that's uniquely positioned to capitalize on our country's booming health craze: diet water. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the key to success is perseverance...

  • I don't think so. Some are destined for failure and some destined for success. for example, why do ethiopian children starve? I doubt it has anything at all to do with their lack of perseverance to find food. It is quite simple luck is needed for success and sustained success. We all need to understand that the rain falls where the rain falls.

  • To what anonymous said....So if everything is already figured out why even bother trying to be happy, have money, or make a difference? If you're meant for any of those then you'll get them. That's not the way I want to live.

There are ethopian kids who don't starve, why? Just because they were destined to live? I don't think so. I'm not going to pretend for one minute that there aren't unfair situations in this world nor am I going to pretend that I wasn't born into more opportunity than most but to assume that everyone's lives are at the mercy of some predetermined course is just an awful perspective on life. There are some Ethopian children who have gone on to do amazing things, quite frankly because they believed they could not out of luck or chance. We can't help where are born, but we have a lot of impact on where our lives go after that.

If you want to believe that whatever happens in your life will happen whether you want it to or not, then go ahead. Sure I know lots of things will happen outside of my control (such as losing my mom at the age of 52 to breast cancer), but I also realize that I have the power to perceive these events in a positive and progressive way. I for one believe that I have much more opportunity in creating the life I want, and that's how I choose to live.
