  • The only thing that irks me more than political correctness is the endless amount of bitching and moaning about political correctness that goes on. People seem to think that it's an amazing, provocative, even revolutionary act when they say or do things that are "politically incorrect" (read: reinforcing the status quo), but the idea that oppressive "political correctness" is somehow keeping down the truth is about as real as the war on Christmas.

  • What is truly bothersome about this article is that it takes a tone, not of explanation, but of justification. That some poor behaviors are a product of human nature does not make those behaviors any less harmful or any more decent. Knowledge of human nature is like knowledge of one's own poker tells - it is a set of flaws to overcome. We are not, as many foolishly believe, a blank slate... but we should strive to be.

  • I just solved the last level of Orbox B! Thanks for that link. I wasted many hours on it since I don't know "how to live", but finishing it was exciting enough that it doesn't seem like such a waste of time any more.

  • j,
I think you're setting up a straw man by claiming that those who are politically incorrect think they're being revolutionary or that political correctness is oppressive. Revolutionary and oppressive are overstating the case, but I think it's pretty clear that we live in a society which strongly discourages certain types of free speech, and I applaud those who speak their minds even when they know most others disagree with them.

    chris,
Excellent points! The article didn't bother me personally, but I can see why it might bother others. I completely agree with your stance that understanding our nature should be used to improve it, not to excuse it.

    tom,
Congrats. I haven't gotten through them yet, but I'm only moving to the next level when I can reproduce the solution (i.e. if I happen to get lucky, I don't count it). Most of the higher levels seem impossible until I find the solution, at which point they seem easy.
