Most of the reading I do is non-fiction. I'm much more interested in the real world than imagined worlds (even those imagined worlds whose purpose is to illuminate some deep truth about the real world). However, occasionally I stumble upon an author who writes fiction that I find appealing, and in rare cases even clapworthy. Such a stumbling recently occurred in the form of one Gary Lutz. There's something beautifully idiosyncratic about his style that I... No, wait, on second thought, I won't examine why I like it. Normally when I like (or dislike) something, I automatically begin to explore why, in order to understand myself better. But here I will make an exception: rather than analyzing it, I will simply enjoy it. (I will also resist the temptation to analyze why I've chosen to forgo my usual analysis in this case.) I hope you enjoy it as well.
